Citizens Advice is the largest advice provider in the UK and has around 20,000 volunteers nationally. By joining us you become part of highly respected advice network dedicated to working to improving the lives of people in our community.

There are a number of volunteer roles within Citizens Advice Guildford and you’re sure to find one that fits your skills, experience and/or interests. At Citizens Advice Guildford everyone works as part of a team committed to serving their community.

Assessors

Assessing clients to establish the best way we can help is an essential part of managing and delivering our service.  

As an assessor, you will be the first point of contact for clients who approach us for help.  You will carry out an initial assessment with the client to identify the best way we can help them.  This could be by providing them with information, signposting or referring them to another organisation, or arranging an appointment for detailed advice.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and enjoys working with people.  The work is very varied and you have a real chance to make a difference in someone’s life.

Receptionists

Providing a friendly first point of contact for our clients essential in providing a good service.

As a receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for clients who approach our service in person at our office in central Guildford.  You will greet people when they arrive and find out what they need help with, assist them with registering with us and working closely with our team of advisers to ensure they are seen and moved forward.  You will also support advisers with basic admin including adding clients to our database and be responsible for maintaining the waiting room, updating noticeboards, replenishing stocks of leaflets and helping to make our waiting room and interview rooms welcoming spaces.  support our volunteers with their advice work with clients by providing day to day admin support. You be able to type letters, scan documents, deal with incoming and outgoing post and general office admin duties associated with running a busy office.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and enjoys working with people.  The work is very varied and you have a real chance to make a difference in the running of our office.  We are looking for someone who can commit to a day (or two half) days a week and we will provide comprehensive training and support as well as a very friendly working environment.  We will also cover your travel expenses.

Fundraisers

Citizens Advice Guildford is a registered charity and is totally dependent on funding from local authorities, business, charitable trusts and individuals.

We are constantly looking for fundraising volunteers to work in the following ways with our treasurer and Trustees to meet our fundraising objectives;

  • Help to research fundraising opportunities.
  • Organising fundraising events.
  • Help completing fundraising applications.
  • Putting together presentations to potential funders.
  • Providing support to fundraising groups, such as a local Friends organisation.

Trustee

Citizens Advice Guildford is a registered charity with a Board of Trustee Directors.

Although we do not currently have any vacancies on our Board of Trustees, we would invite those interested in becoming a trustee, to contact us.  We would particularly like to hear from anyone with the following skills: marketing & communications, fundraising regulation, research & campaigning, website design, media & public relations.
