Receptionists

Providing a friendly first point of contact for our clients is essential in providing a good service.

As a receptionist, you will be working closely with our team of advisers to assist them in dealing with clients, either face to face or  through phone and email.  You will be providing day to day admin support such as adding clients to our database, scanning documents, dealing with post and handling general office duties.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and enjoys working with people.  The work is varied and you have a real chance to make a difference in the running of our office.

Please contact us if you are interested in finding out more about volunteering as a receptionist.

Assessors

Assessing clients to establish the best way we can help is an essential part of managing and delivering our service.

As an assessor, you will be the first point of contact for clients who approach us for help.  You will carry out an initial assessment with the client to identify the best way we can help them.  This could be by providing them with information, signposting or referring them to another organisation, or arranging an appointment for detailed advice.

Some examples of what you could do:

  • find the information online that explains how to apply for Council Tax Support in a client’s local area and explain it to them
  • identify what steps a client can take to resolve their problem with a second hand car
  • help a client find and understand what steps they can take to deal with their rent arrears

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and enjoys working with people. The work is very varied and you have a real chance to make a difference in someone’s life. We are looking for someone who can commit to a day (or two half) days a week and we provide comprehensive training and support as well as a very friendly working environment. We will also cover your travel expenses.

Citizens Advice Guildford provide a free, independent and impartial advice service to the local community and last year helped around 4,000 people with over 11,000 issues. As well as helping people with the individual issues we also campaign for policy change at both a local and national level.

We are looking for people from all backgrounds with the aim of our volunteer team properly reflecting the community in which we work.

Please contact us if you are interested in finding out more about volunteering as an assessor.

Adviser Specialising in Debt

Giving people the advice they need for the problems they face is one of the main aims of Citizens Advice.

As an Adviser you will be talking to clients over the phone or face to face to explore what problems they’ve come to us for help with. You’ll research information and help clients to understand their rights and weigh up their options.

As a result of the pandemic, we are seeing more clients who need help to resolve and manage their debt problems. We are looking for someone to train as an Adviser, specialising in debt advice.

Some examples of what you could do:

  • help clients with debts, to work out a reasonable amount to pay back, and make a phone call to an organisation they owe money to.
  • help clients to understand the debt solutions available to them and how to take the next steps.
